Toxic Workplace & Dysfunctional HR - Program Manager Amazon Web Services Employee Review

Pros

I had the pleasure of working alongside highly talented and intelligent colleagues.

Cons

During my one-on-one meetings with my manager, he would spend several hours complaining about team members, his own manager, and the leadership. He would also harass me by changing my business title to an entry-level title, even though it did not affect my wage, as my job family was program manager. He would micromanage me and look for any opportunity to terminate my employment. His behavior was toxic and made my work environment unbearable. I submitted a report to the HR department regarding his behaviors and requested that my report not be disclosed to the manager. However, I later discovered that HR had leaked the information to the manager, which resulted in retaliation against me. Consequently, I was placed in the pivot and eventually terminated. It is advisable to avoid working in a toxic environment if it is not conducive to your overall well-being.

Pros

-Great place to learn -Work with some of the smartest people in the industry -Flexibility/autonomy in schedule (not impacted by RTO)

Cons

-Constant reorgs and shifts in leadership: I went through a reorg almost every January and had 6 managers in 2.5 years. Inconsistent leadership makes it hard to feel aligned to a company/team vision or to feel supported. -Promotions are highly political and your manager plays a huge role in whether you advance. Managers rarely have career conversations with reps, which leaves little real path for growth. Good managers want to see their team develop and help them get there. -Comp plan changes reduced sellers' ability to accelerate and lowered pay year over year. Comp plans are dictated by Operations, not Sales Leadership.
