Pros

Amedisys has began implementing HUGE changes over the past year. Their nurses and therapist are being asked to maintain a weekly visit rate of 25-35 patients and transmit all computerized notes, orders and Oasis within 24 hrs. This in itself is not impossible. However, we find ourselves choosing between staying up all night or waking at 5am to comply with these demands. Not to mention the fact that we are not compensated for the extra time it takes to meet their new documentation and transmittal time requirements. None of our per visit pay rates have been increased or quotas decreased to date. Therefore, I am now spending twice as much time documenting, beginning my daily visits later each day and getting home later each night....all for the same pay! A week does not go by that we are not asked to spend hours on our company "learn center" to complete mandated continuing education. I cannot speak for all Amedisys' DOO, but ours does not lower our weekly visit quota to compensate for the time required to complete mandatory training. A year ago I would have said that I loved my job and Amedisys was the best company I had ever worked for. Now, I would not recommend anyone with a life outside of work or a family apply. I truly love my DOO, clinical managers and fellow employees...but I need less stress, more sleep and time with my family. The "perks" of home health care (such as a flexible schedule) do not exist any longer at Amedisys and they certainly DO NOT outweigh the headaches!

Cons

Long hours; late nights and/or very early mornings; 24 hr transmittal requirement for all notes, orders and Oasis; hours of mandatory company based education requirements; detailed documentation requirements that have added hours of work that is not compensated; weekly visit quota and per visit pay rate has not been adjusted, although time invested has doubled; recent high turnover in staff due to low moral; regional and corporate directors that are more concerned with impressive numbers than putting our patients first!

Good pay. Employees friendly and willing to help. Get a lot of support and resources from home office.

Pros

- I love being able to make my own schedule and see patients on my own time. - I love the care center hospice team that I work with. My DOO (Director of Operations) is very kind, a team player, and encourages the team to be their best. - Insurance benefits are also a plus (Blue Cross/Blue Sheild).

Cons

- I don't enjoy having to drive around and to far distances to see patients. Also, don't enjoy when patients and family members cancel visits because I won't get paid unless I make the visit. - Upper management doesn't care about the well-being of the local care center employees. Upper management puts to much stress on the DOO for stats and productivity quotas. - Upper management is cheap and doesn't contribute money to celebrate their employees like with a Christmas party (local care centers have to bring pot-luck style food and throw their own Christmas parties).
