Pros

As a fresh EMT, this is a fairly easy job to obtain as they are always completely understaffed. Starting rate for EMT-Bs is $16.00, which is relatively comparable, and then there is a $2.00 differential if you work night shifts. Relatively easy work as a main-Interfacility Transport company, but doesn't give you as much experience if you're looking at 911. Limited 8-hour shifts & 10-hour shifts, Regular 12-hour shifts for Riverdale, 13-hour shifts for Dunwoody.

Cons

Hardly anyone in upper management who has EMS experience, so they seem more money-driven. Little to no training in anything. No training on vehicle operations or radio communication or even paperwork, relies on three 3rd-ride shifts to understand how everything works before stuffing you and your, most likely veteran, partner onto calls. Also, the EMR system "EMSCharts" is absolutely garbage with terrible, constant glitches and always prompts you with random errors that aren't necessary to submit the report. There have been times where, during AM/PM shift change, there would be a 2-hour gap before 301 Supervisor is on shift. Dispatch is the one who handles any issues instead, which most the time they cannot. Dispatch borderline harasses the crew. If radio isn't answered the first time, they'll try again or call your personal phone and then call supervisor to essentially tell on us, when there may be times where crew is occupied with something and unable to answer, such as the time it takes to transfer a heavy patient from the bed to the stretcher. They don't seem to understand that the crew shouldn't be expected to go in, sometimes before pick up time, and then be out with the patient in 15 minutes with paperwork and a report. Half the time, dispatch makes commitments with hospitals and cannot fulfill them until hours later and crew is the one who deals with the hospital staff and patient who apparently is stressed because they expected someone to pick them up hours ago. OR, the hospital is surprised to see the crew and wasn't expecting them for another hour and don't have the patient ready nor the paperwork put together, which delays transport and then crew is rushed. The patient's are stable, there is no rush.
