Pros

As a corps member you: Get to travel all over the region you are stationed in to many amazing parks and public lands. Make friends that will last a lifetime. Get field experience and potentially your foot in the door for conservation jobs. Have housing provided.

Cons

Corps Member stipend is low. Upper management does not communicate well with lower management and corps members. Lots of miss-communication or non at all. There are upper management that are very disconnected from the members. Many members never know or met the majority of the staff. If you work in the office you will be lucky to have time off. They claim it is "flexible" which equates to odd hours, weekends, and multiple weeks without two days off in a row. Lots of big promises to corps members about professional development that never happen. Again big disconnect - some corps members get more attention than others while some long-time members never get advanced trainings even though they've been there a year or so. Mentality of "fighting fires" instead of preventing them. Mostly talk and little action. Expected to do multiple people's jobs at little pay. Understaffed with high turn over rate. Interview process can take weeks or months. When people leave and give notice management doesn't start hiring until they already left.

Pros

This review is as full time central staff. If considering a seasonal position with a gov't agency through ACE, they are great! Flexible schedule Cool work Incredible team

Cons

Management is completely disconnected from work force. They're concerned with accolades and looking like they care, but will not actually listen or communicate with employees HR director is actively hostile and does not care about people 100% business focused despite being a non profit Values and mission are nothing more than words on a website
