On the way down, the view isnt as nice - Vice President - International American Express Employee Review

AMEX was a very good company years ago...the golden years were the 1980's. After 9/11 the company never quite recovered and the gloves came off way before the current financial crisis. While never competent at basic processes like human resource management and information technology, AMEX did very well through creative marketing and talented people. Now, it's just another lame duck bank which doesnt even pretend any more to be at the forefront of current management trends. Unfortunately, AMEX has run out of ideas and is quickly running out of talent. The only long term plan is short term survival....while AMEX will be around for a long time, it's a pale shadow of the exciting and dynamic company it once was.
