Pros

1) work life balance 2) In the right BU, broad responsibility 3) Young, highly intelligent colleagues - best bschools 4) Great place to learn about the power of brand and customer service 5) Job rotation culture 6) Great resume brand

Cons

1) Highly political culture - statesman move far and fast in the organization 2) Passive aggressive culture - slows decision-making 3) Pay relative to competitors - below par 4) Company doesn't really fully invest in your success until you hit Band 50 level (mid-tier VP)- which is when they layer enough cash, RSAs, and options at you to be compelling, but you'll have to endure the painful politics to get there 5) Too many layers in the org - empowerment and leadership needs to be pushed further down the ranks - particularly with the quality of folks brought in

Pros

They have fantastic pay for the position you're in, and they teach you interesting and engaging utility of modern technology mixed with legacy fundamentals. I've learned quite a bit while AmEx while getting paid more than fairly - I'd recommend a stretch here to whomever may be reading this!

Cons

The Company is huge, and at times it may take more than a little time to get recognized for your abilities and the growth you've had. There's a reason there is a "only way up is out" reputation exists for some enterprise companies...
