Pros
American Express is a solid company with great top level leadership. Senior Management at company Headquarters does a great job of keeping employees informed of the direction the company is taking. Very good benefits although they have passed on increased healthcare costs to employees which has caused frustration among employees.
Cons
Lack of consideration for mid management growth opportunities. When making personnel decisions they would rather layoff experienced Directors and VPs leaving Managers to fend for themselves with incremental workload, which causes moral issues within the employees that remain. This leaves a huge void in Thought Leadership which is apparent in performance results and negative feedback among key clients. Most experienced top performing Directors and VPs are forced to look elsewhere for career growth, most end up in top performing Tech companies such as Mastercard and Visa. Many employees at Mastercard Miami are former AMEX employees, there are no former Mastercard employees at AMEX. This should be a message to Sr. Management something is definitely wrong with personnel decisions that have been made in the past. Ultimately, employees in the Miami office are overwhelmed with work, with low morale and feel there is no opportunity for career growth. Although I recommend AMEX as a company, I would not recommend the AMEX Miami Latin America International office.
