Great Benefits, Poor Culture: Hard Pass on APS - Content Strategist American Physical Society Employee Review

Pros

The company offers excellent benefits, with a comprehensive package that is a major plus. The remote work policy is a huge advantage, providing flexibility and a great work-life balance. Employees are also provided with high-quality tech, including updated laptops and large external monitors, which makes working remotely much more efficient.

Cons

The workplace culture is significantly affected by ineffective management and a lack of accountability. There is a top-heavy structure with an excessive number of managers, which has led to a disconnect between leadership and the staff responsible for the actual work. The Human Resources department seems ineffective in addressing serious concerns, including a perceived pattern of nepotism in hiring that bypasses standard review processes. This creates an environment where some employees are unfairly shielded from consequences, even in cases of documented misconduct. A culture of workplace bullying is prevalent. This includes demands for work justification outside of business hours (including weekends), even when employees have meticulously documented their contributions. It appears that performance issues are not addressed consistently, with certain individuals being unfairly targeted while others are protected.
