Largest publicly traded utility where employees have traditionally stayed for a lifetime of employment. There have been many changes and the company culture is not what it used to be. More attention to the bottom line and stock price than to the employees who are "the most priceless resource." - Anonymous American Water Employee Review

Pros

Pay and benefits are good. There is opportunity for advancement--especially now that many career folks are retiring. Locations throughout the U.S. Providing an opportunity to move.

Cons

Working long hours, little resources and very lean staff is the norm. Many big changes over the past 10 years leaves little room for employees to get traction and make progress on the latest change before moving on to the next one.

Pros

Everything is really good. I value how much they care about safety. They practice what they preach.

Cons

You have to wait a year in your current position before applying to move up.

Pros

Great benefits. Affordable health insurance

Cons

Stagnant growth. They only focus on leadership development or licensed trades. Growth is based on friendships. Skills and experience don’t mean much.
