Pros

None could even come close to balance the cons. Some nice people, but a lot of backstabbing and politics to navigate. Paycheck clears the bank. Free parking.

Cons

Integrity and honesty will get you blacklisted by this company when you leave so you can't get other employment later. You are expected to sit down and shut up. Ideas and innovation are frowned upon. (I was promoted and eventually left voluntarily due to the terrible culture.) This company is highly dysfunctional, political, and deceit/gaslighting is a daily practice. You must be a drinking buddy to get promotions. Low diversity. Low pay. Poorly managed. Ask around, especially ask former employees who will tell you the truth since there is no longer a fear of retribution. Read these reviews carefully and you will see a pattern with the detailed negative reviews vs. the "no cons" reviews written by HR to keep the overall average at three stars. (The deceit starts and you aren't even an employee.) If you are determined to work here, work in a field office, not the home office. If you are still considering working here, do your due diligence to go in with open eyes. Most former employees I know share my view that this is the worst company they have ever worked for. I'd rather clean toilets all day than work here ever again. No strategy, no plan, no heart, lots of undeserved ego and significant resource mismanagement in all departments.

Candid criticism can be some the most valuable feedback. You said a lot and even here we’ll find something we can use to do even better. But we really can’t recognize the company you describe – it’s definitely not Ameritas. Like thousands of companies worldwide, Ameritas uses Gallup to anonymously track employee satisfaction. Our engagement ratio of 11.8-to-1 is more than twice the average of 4.4-to-1, putting us in Gallup’s “World Class” category. Our Grand Mean score is in the top half in all 12 categories and the top quarter in many of them, and our employee participation rate of 92% is three points higher than the industry average. The Ameritas we know is deeply committed to the communities we serve, to the wellbeing and professional growth of our associates, to providing strength and stability in a turbulent world, and to the values that help us fulfill life for 5.7 million customers. That said, working at Ameritas isn’t for everyone, and clearly wasn’t for you. We hope you find happiness in your next job.

Pros

Almost all the CSR jobs are remote, even training is from home. They provide good equipment for remote workers. Starting pay is better than average. Have not had mandatory overtime in a long time. Almost all coworkers are great people who support each other and are wonderful to deal with. Big backers of employment diversity and tolerance (without making a big deal about it). Have programs for retirement savings, employee discounts and work/life balance.

Cons

The job is telling people why the company left them with thousand dollar bills they thought were going to be completely covered. You have some positive customer interactions, but there are multiple cases every day where you feel your company did something they should not be allowed to, and YOU are the person explaining why. To get meaningful raises you have to get promotions. If you are in a position you like, you will not get meaningful cost of living adjustments. It is possible to get no raise or or half the rate of inflation while being told you are doing a "good job." They are really playing catch-up with their technology. The interfaces employees use to look up information are ancient and you can get used to their shortcomings, but it helps to obscure information that may later turn into claim denials. They claim to be improving this but as of 2024, slowly. Asking for time off in the call center can be tricky.

We appreciate your input about remote work benefits and technology concerns. Your honest feedback helps us continue improving. It's great to hear about the good work life balance and positive team spirit. Understand how technology can be a pain point and you are right we have been working on this. We hope all the hard work will pay off but change does take time. Thank you for all you do and assisting our customers everyday!
