Pros
I started in another department and was brought into IT to help on a short term basis, thought it was a great way to gain experience and move up. Close to home, decent flexibility
Cons
The manager that brought me into IT kept promising me a full time position, and dangling the "carrot" to get me hooked and keep working at very sub par hourly wages doing very technical work. I was promised a spot many times and the date just kept getting pushed back. All the while I witnessed this guy destroy his own department. He ridiculed one of the IT guys there daily. The entire IT department hates him and I can see why. He doesn't seem to know anything, he's even asked me to show him how to do basic things. I would get trained on a task from the SR IT guys and then the manager not wanting to admit he didnt know asks me in private to show him how to do simple things as a manager in IT he should already know. The manager would talk about the staff all the time negatively, and I witnessed him lie on multiple occasions to very SR leadership and chuckle afterwards. Recently we lost one of the best IT guys I've ever met, he knew a ton and taught me a ton. He was fed up watching the manager ruin the company and after voicing his concerns to upper leadership nothing happened, so he left. The whole company is now suffering due to his departure because other than one other IT guy here, know one really knows how to fix anything. I am personally looking to leave very soon myself. and the last other good IT guy here says he's interviewing as well. Pretty sure the company will continue on believing what ever lies the IT manager is spewing and not realize people are fed up and leaving because of the manager. The manager will be left with a few contractors that barely know how to turn on a PC. Hopefully I can get out before it too late
