Pros

Potential for turning potent but toxic T-cell engagers into safe and effective therapeutics is a noble cause. Another plus are really talented folks on the R&D team that are amazing to work with.

Cons

There are several intense personalities on the senior management team that have anger management issues. Behavior can toggle between texting you outside of working hours as your BFF to attacking you at meetings and giving you the cold shoulder. This behavior is excused as intensity when it is classic bully behavior that should be called out. That is hard when that person has hiring and firing power. Others lack basic empathy skills and manage with lists and Excel documents, rather than having real conversations. To add insult to injury, there are a few people who play politics to get ahead and will throw you under the bus if it advances their career. While Amunix is doing better as a business, it should not excuse leaders who bully, intimidate, and lack basic etiquette. Don't settle for a toxic work environment that is unsupportive.

Amunix Response

From Angie, Amunix CEO: I am truly sorry to hear that this was your experience at Amunix. We have always encouraged feedback and there are countless examples of junior employees providing feedback all the way up to the CEO with no negative repercussions. We try to empower and coach our employees to communicate any issues and overall, I hope people see that we listen and take it to heart. Our culture is one where we hold ourselves accountable especially when people communicate and provide feedback, even going so far as providing coaching for the leaders of our organization, including myself. I recognize that we all perceive discussions differently and what comes across as a healthy scientific debate to some, may feel more intimidating to others. That being said, I believe in transparency and have publicly owned when my behavior or interaction could have been better. Bully behavior and blame games are unacceptable at Amunix, and if you felt this way, I wish you had felt comfortable discussing it with your manager. Even as a former employee, I would welcome hearing from you directly (if you are interested) to learn more about your experience and your suggestions on how we can do better. I do hope to hear from you, but if not, I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Pros

If you are straight out of college this job is a good place to start. The pay may not be comparable to the big companies, but you will get a lot of hands on experience with many different techniques. I did not realize how valuable this was until I saw how repetitive other jobs at my level can be. Everyone will have the opportunity to spearhead some new process development work. I feel very well prepared for a career in this industry because of my experiences at Amunix. --Free Lunches (every day) --Lots of snacks available all day --Cool people; I made a ton of great friends there --Flexible hours Amunix is in a really exciting position right now. If they play their cards right the stock options could be worth quite a lot. That's all uncertain though, so I'm not sure if that is a pro or con.

Cons

The biggest one is the salary. They really underpay their employees. Hopefully they are able to improve on that in the future. They have been trying to make up for this with stock options, but that's not as good as money in your pocket for people who have student debt to pay off. -- Your projects constantly change (I once when 6 months without finishing a project because they all kept getting canceled. This is really frustrating because you feel like nothing you've done for the past few months matters).
