I have a job at a fairly stable company but not much else - Front End Developer Ancestry Employee Review

Pros

Ancestry has weathered many storms and a fairly safe harbor to be in during economic downturn.

Cons

They refuse to adjust wages to even half of inflation and pay out massive dividends but won’t pay full bonuses or even close to inflation raises. When SLT is confronted with this they tell us our salaries are right at the 50% average for labor costs. The “refer someone to work here” company survey score is dropping like a lead balloon and they tell us work harder and we will be happier.

Pros

Great company culture, supportive team, smooth onboarding process, strong career stability, and meaningful work. My interview experience was very positive, and the recruiting and onboarding teams were helpful, responsive, and professional throughout the process.

Cons

There is always a learning curve when joining a new company, especially while understanding internal systems and processes, but the team has been very supportive.

Pros

The work-life balance is pretty good. I have never had issues taking time off when I needed to. The pay and benefits are on par with other, similar jobs in the area. There are many long-time employees at the company.

Cons

The company is product-led, so leadership is more concerned with shipping new features than they are with making sure what they have already shipped works well. Restricted stock unit grants always come with a one year vesting cliff, whether an employee has worked at the company for two years or twenty years. They do not appear to trust that long-time employees will continue to stay at the company, even though they have many long-time employees.
