Cons

My experience working at Antioch University was deeply disappointing and emotionally draining. While the institution markets itself as progressive and student-centered, the internal work culture tells a very different story. The most pervasive issue is the toxic leadership culture. Upper and middle management often lack transparency and accountability, with decisions made behind closed doors and little regard for faculty input. Criticism—no matter how constructive—is discouraged, and those who speak up are often marginalized or penalized. This creates an atmosphere of fear, compliance, and mistrust. Burnout is high, and little is done to retain talent. Many employees I worked with either left voluntarily or were pushed out due to the unsustainable conditions and alleged retaliation. Antioch may have a rich history and strong mission on paper, but the internal reality is far from it. I would not recommend this institution as a workplace for anyone seeking a healthy, respectful, or growth-oriented environment. Right now there are lay offs, the clinics are closing, and there are big concerns about the future of the organization. Support for diversity appeared performative-be careful.
