Pros
They supply a truck and gas card. They have cheap insurance.
Cons
Not guaranteed any amount of hours. Clock out between calls. No sick pay. No holidays off. Really. No holidays off. Mandatory weekly on-call even though you won't receive a full week which means no overtime. Mandatory Saturday and Sunday rotating work schedule while still not being guaranteed the 40 hours, so once again, no overtime. Progress Pay (monthly bonus) is only received if your upselling over your weekly pay with the material deducted at a rate of 200% also deducting time, permit fee. Then your amount is adjusted at 20-28%. If your amount left over is more than your pay for the week you bank that amount. These add up over the month and accrue as monthly pay out. If you are under the amount of payroll for the week that negative rolls to the next week. If you end up negative for the month (only one person I know received a progress bonus in 3 years) that negative ballgame also rolls to the next month and you have to now upset everything to dig yourself out of the hole or never receive a bonus. The prices they charge are based on a $545 billable hour. That right. 200% markup on parts and $545 an hour. How can any person with a conscience and a good set of morals work with that? The average cost for an electrical panel replacement from AHS is 8000-12000. Total material cost about 700. Average electrical contractor cost is around 3500-4500. They offer weekly training but it is only on their 5 star service system which is focused on getting the technician to the electrical panel no matter what the issue is. They will tell you it is a check for their safety or that the panel could be bad causing your small issue. However they can make you feel like you are in danger and need the replacement. I worked for ACbyJ prior to them being bought by AHS (along with Penguin, Chandler Air, Strong Built, Jimmy Joe Plumbing, etc..look up Any Hour Group and see how many businesses they have purchased) and I regret staying on a long as I did. I refused to sell installations at ridiculous prices to people who did not need them. The electrical manager is the owners son and he has zero experience in the electrical field. He came from HVAC sales. The company has a license but I was the only one besides that actually is licensed. Don't be fooled when they say licensed technicians. Only the qualifying party has a license and all others work under that license and that guy does not check any work believe me. I love all the people from ACbyJ but they took a bad deal signing up with Any Hour. Well, the employees did at least, the owners made out like bandits.
