Pros

The company has a management structure that legitimately cares about their employees without a doubt. There is also a huge desire to improve the business. The days of pushing enrollments through are over and I have seen the shift over the past 9 years showing this. They really are interested in doing better by students and employees. The level of concern and genuine concern over student success is amazing. You don’t hear about this in the news but Apollo is actually leading the way on changing how enrolling a student works and what can be provided to them to give them the maximum chance to graduate. Students not succeeding and/or graduating anymore is unacceptable to Apollo which is an amazingly wonderful thing to see. The select-able tiers of medical coverage they offer are very nice as well. You select and pay for what you want. I pay an arm and a leg for my insurance via the tier I selected but the coverage is beyond phenomenal. Some groups within the company are every progressive in their adoption of working from home. Some of the buildings are nice and the cafeteria options in some locations are a big plus. More relaxed environment than most. I love the progressive mindset with some things as well. Apollo has vehicle charging system placed at no less than half of its buildings for employees to use free of charge.

Cons

Managers do really care about their employees but do absolutely nothing to appreciate them. Most of this is because they either don't know how or are restricted by budget constraints. Most of the employees do only what is needed to keep from getting fired. There is no incentive with Apollo to go above and beyond. Working hard and meeting all of your goals on your annual review takes you from a 2% raise up to a 3% raise. There just isn't any incentive to do anything beyond the basics. They have a program called EPIC which allows users to assign points to you as a thank you. Although, if you were recognized at least once a week, it would take 7 years to earn enough points for something like a toaster, yes you heard that correctly. Many people don't even use the system because it is such a sad attempt to reward employees. Again it goes back to Apollo really does attempt to do right by their employees. They just don't know how to execute it well. The company also has no idea what they are doing when it comes to innovation. They really do want to innovate, I can see that they are trying but they are much more worried about playing catch up all the time versus making impact-full changes to bring systems up to snuff. Pay is on the low side for sure but Apollo gives the reasoning that they help pay for your insurance and allow you to attend school at a heavily reduced rate. Well some of us don't want to attend the programs available at Apollo so the benefit they quote so much is useless. They have frequent 'voice of the employee' projects but nothing ever comes of it beyond putting up some streamers and allowing people to wear a sports jersey for a day or something. The environment can be very cold due to the lack of team engagement. Team builders have vanished and unfortunately it has turned into a keep your head down and produce environment. There is also the issue of little to no raises and constant reorganizations. Despite what many think though, Apollo does have a massive amount of long term employees. Employees usually leave because of pay or because they are stuck in a dead end position. Many IT positions fall into this believe it or not because the company is less interested in improving employees skill depth and more interested in playing catch up. The company is also very top heavy. You will see a whole lot of bloated management/administrative type of positions within the company. Allot of truly great managers but just as many bad ones who take up space and money. Apollo has been very hesitant for quite some time to have thinner management. They enjoy the very antiquated MadMen era thick manager pool environment.
