Our work is indeed driven by customer contracts; that's part of what makes things so diverse and interesting. And we already do what you suggest: use contractors as a buffer against retraction in business. It seems to be working, since we've had no layoffs while tripling our size over the past 15 years. I started my career at Applied Visions fresh out of school and spent nearly two decades growing with the company. I had the opportunity to work on MANY interesting and exciting projects and learned a tremendous amount about the business and art of building software. The CEO, Frank, was always supportive and genuinely listened to my career goals, making it a place where I could chart my own course. The company strikes a great balance between being small enough to allow for diverse experiences across different parts of the business, yet large enough to work with major clients on impactful projects. It’s a great place for someone looking to build a long-term career and develop a wide range of skills.
