Pros
Hmm, this is a difficult category to complete. 1) Lets see, the people on your actual team are great to work with when management is not doing what they can to run people off. 2) The vision plan is decent. That would be the only positives of working here.
Cons
1) The pay is at the very bottom of the scale for any position other than an executive. 2) They claim that there will be bonuses for everyone but that is a bold face lie, unless you are an executive than you get it, otherwise do not expect to see a bonus. 3) The benefits that are not Vision are the absolute worse, the health insurance policy should really be just don't ever get sick. 4) The atmosphere/culture especially in R&D is hostile and soul destroying. This is caused by the incompetence of the upper management and the fact that upper management treats the R&D department the worse in the whole company, even though logic says that the people making and maintaining the software that is being sold to keep the doors open should be treated the best not the worst. Having upper management that is out of touch with the American culture of the new age college graduate is a problem. If this was a company being run overseas, or twenty years ago then the current upper management team might do okay. The place use to be fun, there would be talking and once an afternoon you could go by R&D and get involved in a NERF war, but some people didn't like that and tattled to higher ups and the fun police came and said no more NERF. Instead they tried to replace that morale killer with a Foosball and ping pong table. That are only allowed to be used in the afternoons after five and if all your work is done. The office space to work has been downgraded to about a four by four by two cube with no ability to collaborate with team members or even get work done in a non-distracting environment. The culture is so bad that even getting up to stretch is now treated as a no-no. 5) Upper management- Does one department really need three different VPs that all want to run the place a different way on a different day? Apparently the answer here is a big fat Yes. Good luck knowing who is in charge on any given day. If you are not willing to arrive when they do and leave when they do, you can not make them happy, even if you are good enough to get the work done in a normal eight hour day. Forget about taking lunch unless you want to take it at your desk or make up the time that you are not there, if you don't do either than certain people will get mad and become passive aggressive. The passive aggressive nature of upper management is another HUGE negative. Instead of doing something about it the minute it happens, it will be days later that you get the notice and that is after it goes through about four different people. Instead of walking around what someone is working on maybe you should be in your office doing your own work so you can leave at a normal time. The fact that the person in charge of a team does not actually make the decisions about the team working on the product, even though they interact with the team more than the VPs is illogical. The lack of knowledge of current technologies that they want implemented is a huge negative, just because it exists does not mean it can be applied to all products at all companies. The micro-management of everything is terrible, if you want to make sure the job is done to your secret standards than you should probably be doing it yourself, instead of creating unnecessary work for others. Always needing someone else to blame instead of taking the blame for the fact they do not really know everything when making decisions, or that they got caught in a lie. They will never know your name and gladly conjure lies or use observations with no proof to get rid of anyone that they need to, because you are only a cog in the broken machine that is Aptean and not a person. 6) Logic is not applied to issues. Instead of trying to boost morale and keep people, they now focus on some arbitrary numbers and judge people harshly on those numbers. Which only lowers morale more and has created a situation WHERE A PERSON IS LEAVING THE COMPANY EVERY TWO WEEKS. This is not something that should have the ability to have an average put on it. Starting major projects and then moving people to other teams because they think no one will notice. Not using logic goes all the way to the top, because if anyone would look and see that people where leaving at an alarming rate, there would be some executives getting fired, but the blindness runs all the way to the top. The fact that if you are on a team and you want discuss the project the team is working on, it is not allowed and makes people angry because it is seen as not working as hard as possible. Then what is the point of the team? 7) The software. The software here is so old and terribly made I am surprised that they even manage to sell it to customers. The Pivotal product is completely broken and in need of a complete rewrite, but management doesn't care as long as it is being sold, even though customers complain about it all the time. The Ross product comes from the 1970s and it shows its age with the lack of features and the antiquated technology being used in it. 8) Treating people that make mockups like they are more important than the people that actually make the working project. Recently, the new UX team lead that was hired and over payed wants to take over a lot of space to have a showroom of the empty promises they are drawing so they can show customers. Teams in the company hear these discussions and once again morale decreases, and the question becomes: What is the point of working hard if you get no recognition for doing the unglamorous work, to make these promises a reality? 9) Treating customers like they are just a number on an accounting sheet. If customers came first some of the software issues would have been solved years ago, and empty promises would not be made to try and keep what you got. The strong arm tactics of the company to retain and milk every dime out of a customer is disgusting. 10) The people they got to come from China to work after closing the office over there. These people have no way to get out because they hold their Work Visa and would not care one iota about sending them back the minute they don't perform up the scale they think they should. 11) The secretive arbitrary scale that management uses to judge who is worthy or not. Once again because there are multiple people in charge of a department, each one has their own scale and good luck trying to be a success on all of them. 12) The fact that no one new is being hired to replace the ones that have left. Everyone knows that the jobs are being sent to India, to be done for a cheaper price and to a poorer quality. While not just pack the whole office up and send it over there instead of one position at a time? 13) The CEO is only seen if there is a public appearance in it for him, or some amount of glory he can claim. The guy does not know or understand the technology that the company uses or makes. The fact that he does not see what his underlings are doing with the employees should set of a major red flag for everyone. Also, the claim that employees can talk to him and something will change is a lie. The only thing that changes is that things get worse, because once again the passive aggressive behavior is demonstrated by the underlings. 14) The non-stop propaganda shown on the TVs on every wall. The employees don't care because we are already there, maybe in the lobby with the receptionist you need them but with working employees, all they do is destroy morale. 15) Career advancement is something that does not exist. 16) The outlook for this company. The outlook is probably in a year all jobs will be overseas or the equity partner group will sell it off in pieces. Because, it is starting to get ugly and customers and employees are seeing the truth, even though they are trying to hide it as well as possible. With the current incompetence, lack of respect for employees, and spineless management, the doors may be open another year, with two being the max.
