Pros

Overall they hire fun people. Based off of a start up culture that is fun and relaxed (depending on the department). They drink a lot. CEO is a good guy at heart and very personable.

Cons

Felt like some poor decisions were made in upper management. Different departments have been "restructured". Felt pressured to highly rate the company every year on surveys. Given unlimited time off, but felt shamed for asking for any of it. Very few employees from the early years are still with the company.

Hi there, thank you for your honest and critical feedback. It is unfortunate that you feel upper management has made poor decisions. While it is unclear what you might be referencing, it is absolutely true that we are not perfect, and sometimes we make decisions that, in hindsight, were mistakes. There is a balance between willingness to make mistakes by trying something new and continuing a more consistent, albeit potentially less forward-thinking structure. I am truly sorry to hear that some of these failures have affected you negatively. I am also personally concerned that you felt obligated to rank the company positively. The People Operations team has always actively avoided pressuring employees to rank Apto in a certain way--after all, it's a review on our company, and we want an accurate picture. How else will we be able to continue hiring great people? Finally, we review time off taken by employees on a quarterly basis. Our goal in that audit is to identify individuals or teams where people are not taking vacation and to isolate the cause. To date, we have not had any wide-scale team or departmental issues, so I would advise speaking with your manager or the People Operations team if you are not comfortable taking time off. Thank you again for your honesty and I hope that, if you're still with us, you are willing to work with management and/or the People Operations team to rectify these issues. Please feel free to reach out to me directly. Tim Warson Apto

Pros

Take it from me, someone who's been here a while. Things are fine, despite the negative reviews. Yeah, the pie might be shrinking, but that just means I've got more real estate (heh) to claim. To all those who just lost their jobs: you deserved this. Apto was too big. Now we're really moving towards what Goldilocks would call "just right." We have a ways to go to profitability, but we're continuing to reduce costs every week with all the follow-on quitters who weren't cool enough to get laid off like the rest of them. Good riddance. As we continue to fire bad customers, we don't need as many customer support reps anyway. Plus, our new engineering team in St. Petersburg is way better than the old one. They do what they're told, unlike the old divas who had the nerve to question the company strategy. You say insubordination, we say out-of-the-organization. That's just how things should be, because we're all adults here. Besides, constant fear and anxiety really shows who's up to the task.

Cons

It's like no one understands that these things are NORMAL in a startup. The constant fear and anxiety (which should be a force for good) seems to make everyone into a paranoid weirdo. At lunch, people are always gossiping about "who's going to quit next" when they should be framing it like "who do we need to eliminate next?" It's sad how many people are losing focus on this exciting journey to burn rate zero. Be grateful for this opportunity!
