Pros

The HR team was very professional despite a very lengthy hiring process. They make you feel very welcome at first and everything was set up and ready for work on my first day. Good pay and benefits.

Cons

Where do I start? Unfortunately after a couple weeks the honeymoon was over. Little did I know I was hired before there was any work for me to do. Sounds like a dream for some but after a couple of weeks of absolutely nothing to do except read their web site and internal docs I began to worry. I offered many times to help out with tasks that weren't even what I was hired to do as I'm a team player. My Account Manager began to act as if it were my fault and I was a burden to him as the projects they had anticipated were not coming to fruition. Not exactly a smart way to run a company and then to treat the new hire like they are a problem when you don't have work for them to do. I've been on that side of the fence at another company and we didn't do that to our new hires, nor did we hire without projects lined up....I left a much more reputable and larger company that I had been with for a long time to come here and quite honestly absolutely regret it. Their office is located in a very undesirable area, read between the lines, and despite being told I would be onsite at a client location I was not because they never had the project in the first place. Please reference the other review about liars. You win some and loose some in life and this was a definite loss. Also, their are many disgruntled employees there who create a toxic work environment. I did meet a few solid and sharp people and best of luck to them. I honestly can't see how this place was on a list for top places to work and the Washington Business Journal needs to do better research if so.

Pros

Work is diverse and interesting, compensation is pretty good for the industry. Company has traditionally had a family feel where it is easy to have congenial relationships with HR, IT, other groups, etc. Champions cutting edge technology when possible, always looking forward. Very flexible schedules are possible as well as telecommuting.

Cons

Company is growing really fast and culture can't keep up. Although they espouse ethical behavior, it really depends on who the AD is, what the project is, and where the money is at. Senior Management says one things, but clearly champions keeping the money rolling in rather than drinking their own koolaid of only accepting the "right" kind of clients. If you have a good manager and team, things are GREAT! If you are on a crazy project or have ineffectual managers, you are screwed. There is less stability than they say--if your project ends there is no guarantee that you will be moved to another team or if you are that you will be doing what you really want to do. Again, it all comes down to your managers and who advocates for you. Aquilent assumed very little risk during the government shutdown--if your project was shut down you had use your own vacation or go into the hole and then not get paid. This seems unfair for a company that only works with the federal government.
