Pros

- Will meet a lot of close friends here, especially since most people are moving from all over the country for the job - Training is very thorough and you do not feel abandoned once you get on the floor - Lots of experience here, with successful salesmen and managers to learn from - You will grow from your mistakes and will develop a very strong work ethic - In operations, you are not expected to work on the weekends - Your team will have a budget that can be spent on Happy Hours or food, and my team had free lunch/breakfast on virtually every Friday

Cons

- This industry is 24/7, and you WILL be stressed after work - The industry is filled with dishonesty from drivers, dispatchers and shippers, which can make you look poorly in the eyes of the customer - Operations department does not have growth opportunities, unless you want to switch over to a sales role or stay in operations for 3 years to potentially land a management role - Pay is standard across all offices, no adjustment based on the cost of living in the city you are working in - Constant change in the structure, which leads to high turnover - Bonus structure is rarely fully earned in the current freight market

Pros

Ability to earn commission, but it’s all on you. Ability to run your own book

Cons

Handed off accounts drive success of most reps, if you are on a newer team, it’s a lot harder to find success.
