Pros
-Very intelligent, kind, and hard-working staff who care about the mission and education -You're encouraged and supported to use your time off -Great products and can feel good about and the work you do and company mission -Good opportunities for online school teachers and support staff (those are many of the reviews you see here, by the way)
Cons
-Inexperienced senior leadership team members that cause repeated problems in the organization - no one ever seems to be willing to have this conversation or address this and it gets avoided all the time. -Rigid rules from the top about headquarters positions needing to be onsite at the San Diego office for "collaboration" when these positions could be done remotely and could also provide much needed support to teams if the company were willing to expand remote role opportunities. This rigidity is constantly losing the company great talent in a job seeker's market and will continue to do so until they wake up and change things. Office "collaboration" by the way looks like the headquarters office being dead silent on a daily basis while people have meetings in different rooms . Often times nothing you couldn't hop on a call or Slack message to collaborate on, but the company is dead set on the office being required, which means many new positions have to up and move their entire life to San Diego, now one of the most expensive real estate and rent markets in the entire country. -Inability to have real, progressive, and transparent conversations about diversity and inclusion and enact real change from within or in the larger education world because the company is scared of being political or offending people. This is a true missed opportunity and many of the employees see this. Refusal from the top to provide very important training for employees on things like implicit bias, which many many employees at the company could benefit from. -Fear of transparency and taking honest feedback from employees/doing anything with employee feedback. Senior leadership will avoid asking questions they do not want to hear real honest answers to and will actively avoid taking action on a variety of issues. -Company does not care deeply enough about employee retention or dedicating themselves to employee engagement efforts that will get or keep great talent. They care more about controlling their employees and who works onsite in San Diego.
