Pros
Culture of learning and research, innovation, flat structure/lack of hierarchy, some smart people, perks as an employee owned company (travel, profit share, overseas assignments, learning/skills development), positive culture (warm people)
Cons
Poor implementation of business strategy, not a meritocracy (mediocre employees retained and often promoted at expense of others), a culture of 'doing your time', rather than promotion on merit, overly traditional in many respects particularly in larger engineering parts of business (e.g. buildings, infrastructure engineering), unsophisticated business processes, navel gazing (company likes to think about itself too much, at expense of thinking about market), lower wages compared to competitors
