Pros

Passionate employees. Relatively less political environment. (due to the fact that there is zero employee empowerment up to the VP level). Place to build up your tolerance and resilence.

Cons

By far the most draconian company that I have worked for. I am just floored by how bad this company treats its employees. Employees are made to feel like they are disposable tissue paper that can be easily discarded and cheaply replaced. Loyalty is a word that does not exist here. Every decision is made by the "invincible" man from corporate HQ, from approving the recruitment of a entry level contract worker all the way to the something really minor such as the purchase of a coffee maker in the office. The pantry in the office is barebone. You will have only coffee, tea and sugar and creamer powder. That's all you get. There is a incredible amount of control by the management executives. There is zero automony to do what is right for the customers. There is total distrust by the management and feedback from the ground is regarded with great suspicion. Approvals have to be sought on practically everything; even for expense involving a couple of hundreds of dollars. Cost is controlled so tightly that even buying customers a formal dinner has to be approved by a ridiculous rounds of several levels i.e. your direct supervisor/VP/EVP/CFO/CEO. Even the SVP cannot buy a meal for customers without getting written approvals from the CFO/CEO. Employees are made to feel like they are diving down the cliff with their legs and hands handcuffed ! Sales guys are squeezed on their commission every year but have at the same time to meet even more stringent targets and quotas that are likely to put them on the losing end. Often you will get this feeling that the company is setting you up for failure. The concept of a nuturing environment is non-existent. Dont expect to get a condolence bouquet if some members of your family passed away. Similarly when you are hospitalised or your wife has given birth to a baby. Basic gestures like this is considered as an expense that will hit the bottomline of the company. The longer you stay in this company, the deeper you will stay in the pit and lose your confidence altogether. If you are building your career and hoping to pick up and hone your management skills, you have better stay away from this company ! If however, you are in your in your 50s and have absolutely no where else to go and need to put food on the table for the family, then perhaps there is not much of a choice for you !

Pros

Good products with large customer base. Product development is innovative and willing to work directly with customers. Base pay for sales reps is improving after the acquisition by Emerson Electric. The Emerson Electric acquisition is received positively by the customers. Internal training is good and readily available. Collaboration between the various departments is excellent.

Cons

New management is focused on running the sales organization by spreadsheet metrics vs. obtaining and improving customer relationships. Product pricing and sales approval processes are very complex. Customers are seen as captives and when they request reasonable changes to their contract, they are often denied if there is not significant revenue growth (results in bad relationships). Sales management is spending more time in internal meetings than with customers and their reps.
