Pros
The traveling is the only reason I have been able to stay.
Cons
The pay is terrible considering the amount of work we do. My manager lies to all new appraisers about the bonus structure to make it look like it is in anyway merit based, it's 3%. They will lie to you to make you think that you can make more money by saving on expenses but that money will go to someone else. They do not provide any health insurance benefits that you couldn't buy yourself. They are relentless on us about expenses when management regularly goes out and gets drunk on the company dime. Management does not care one bit about work quality, which is unfortunate since our work determines how far millions of peoples' local taxes can go. I have re-appraised work done by our company years ago that has been so wrong it's unbelievable that government organizations all over the country happily rely on it. We do our work outside, 100 buildings a week, on paper, and the management thought it was smart to invest in re-branding rather than a system that keeps us from wasting the majority of our time on redundant data entry. The whole structure of this company is like a pyramid scheme. You don't make it to the top by being the best or smartest. You get there by doing what you're told and following along with the nonsensical system until you get to the top ensuring that nothing continues to change.
