Pros
I worked in the Creative Services department and enjoyed working with my direct management and other employees. Once in a while they would have free ice cream sandwiches.
Cons
The management practices are wildly different and outdated than other places I've worked. In this type of environment they should be using agile methodologies in order to better gather information about how much each employee is capable of producing within a sprint period (2 weeks). They overloaded us with work and constantly expected us to work overtime and on weekends, all while paying everyone below the Utah average and well below the national average for designers. I don't know of anyone on the team, other than management, that is paid salary. It is very surprising to me that many of their senior level employees have worked there for over a decade because they could easily walk out the door and get paid double the salary with a better work environment and benefits at other places. The team has won multiple awards for their designs and efforts, but AFS continues to devalue them by giving slap in the face yearly bonuses and very small pay raises. I eventually left the company and took an entry level offer that was 55% more than I was making with AFS and now make more than double.
