Typical office with poor management - Designer Astec Industries Employee Review

Pros

The offices are quite comfortable and the infrastructure is very ergonomic to work in. The office is nearby montreal, and they tend to push for hiring engineers with diverse backgrounds which I personally approve of since the engineering field can be tough to enter or change paths in. Once there, it's very easy due to their links to the mining industry and general consulting to move to those respective fields. Last but not least, the head of accounting made my stay a lot more enjoyable by including me in the social club which did make it better, events and company life are a pro when they happen.

Cons

Whilst the low level staff counted some of the kindest humans I've met, I think the total opposite can be said of the management here. As a woman, harassement is very hard to deal with when it happens here since it most often comes from folks above you. Managers may advise their staff to share issues with them but I advise on the contrary if you happen to be working here. The project managers were beginners at their respective levels and made a mistake I see far too often of building up the bureaucracy to no end. Useless meetings, email chains, and remote employees whom we'd never see but would always provoke disruptions in the managerial chain that of course trickled down. The projects done here are always interdepartmental and long term, remote managers are probably the worst possible idea in this specific environment. The PMs seemed to either not handle stress well or not communicate as once I was past the inital integration phase, I clearly noticed most of them seemed abrasive and rude to most of the people they'd have to engage with. Overall, this office left me feeling like I wasted my time working here and got to hate stagnant offices just a bit more. A 3/10 as far as workplaces go, If you are looking at BMH systems as a potential employer, I advise treating it as a temporary one or a stepping stone to pivot your career wherever you wish to go, and not letting this workplace sink a hole in your career by treating it as a good long term environment.
