Pros

There is absolutely nowhere else I would rather be. As I recent graduate, I wanted a very technically challenging job where my work would have a large impact on the company. Astranis has given me this and more. My work starting day one has been meaningful and impactful. Astranis is still a small company so everyone's (even interns) work is critical for the company. Additionally I receive mentorship and guidance from the best engineers I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I also feel very comfortable with my peers. I feel like I teach them and they teach me constantly. The culture of Astranis is a great mix of fast paced startup and generous work-life balance. The company is very close and social. Social events are frequent and bring together people who normally don't cross paths often. I have never sensed any hostility between employees even when professional opinions differ. The mission of Astranis is also honorable and motivational. Working for a space company not in defense is refreshing. Great location in the city. It is very close to Caltrain, Bart, Muni, and the highway exit. Also it is surrounded by many startups you may have heard. San Francisco is also a really cool city. I enjoy exploring the city on weekends and meeting people from all over the world.

Cons

Astranis shares the cons of most startups. Some weeks require extra hours to meet a critical deadline. Pay is less than big tech companies. There aren't company wide standardization around project management yet but its getting better.

Pros

You work with a lot of smart people and a general growing company. The work life balance is manageable

Cons

In my experience, decision-making is highly centralized with the CEO, and the Finance team operates more in a reactive/support capacity rather than driving strategic insights. As a result, there is limited opportunity for Finance to influence key business decisions. The CFO’s role appeared limited, with a focus on alignment with the executive team rather than independently driving business decisions. This dynamic can make it difficult for Finance to operate as a strategic partner to the business. Leadership dynamics within the team can feel unclear at times, particularly around ownership of processes and decision rights, which can create confusion and reduce effectiveness. I also observed that career progression may not feel equally accessible to all employees, with advancement often influenced by informal networks and visibility rather than clearly defined criteria. This may impact retention and overall morale. While the company operates in person, much of the communication from the CEO occurs through Slack, including urgent or high-pressure messages. In my experience, feedback and expectations were sometimes communicated in a way that felt abrupt or escalatory, including situations where job security was threatened. This contributed to a more tense working environment than expected for an in-office culture.
