Pros

I have been employed with the company for several years now. I have met so many amazing residents, as well as family members, throughout my time at Atria. I work with some exceptional caregivers. I appreciate those who are willing to come together as a team when it is needed and those who do not complain about putting in a little extra work. Because of my employment with Atria, I have gained many cherished memories and a few great friends that I will remain in contact with.

Cons

I used to love so much to come into work each day. However, it has recently become nearly impossible to enjoy my job. It is even difficult to enjoy the time I spend with my residents because of all of the horrible things happening in management. I understand they are stressed because their jobs depend on the census of the facility. But, the executive director and other management staff have become so focused on getting residents to move in that they cannot see major issues that are happening within the building. Well, maybe they can see them. But, they are turning their heads to everything. The residents are not receiving the care that they should be. Nowhere near it. This is very disheartening to me, as I am unable to do anything about it. We are constantly told by management that they would like for us to come to them with any complaints or concerns we may have (instead of simply complaining on the employee survey). However, it has been my experience that when a staff member reports to them one of two things happen...(1) you are not taken seriously and issues never get addressed, no matter how significant or (2) you are reprimanded for trying to have a voice for the residents you help to care for. Also, the company claims "culinary excellence" and "we cater to you." That is nowhere near the case in the particular facility I have experience with. I hope that it is different elsewhere.

Pros

Wonderful relationships with the residents and coworkers.

Cons

My experience with Atria Senior Living was deeply disappointing. While the residents were wonderful and made coming to work worthwhile, corporate leadership consistently overshadowed what should have been a resident-focused environment. There was a significant disconnect between corporate executives and the day-to-day realities of the communities they oversee. Decisions often appeared driven by financial metrics rather than resident satisfaction or employee well-being. Employees were expected to absorb the consequences of those decisions while being given little support and even less respect. The culture from upper management was one of criticism rather than collaboration. Employees were frequently spoken to in a manner that felt demeaning and unprofessional. Constructive coaching was rare; public criticism and intimidation seemed far more common. Morale suffered because many employees felt undervalued, unheard, and disposable. Perhaps most troubling was the growing frustration expressed by residents and their families. Frontline staff worked hard to provide excellent service, but many resident concerns were beyond our control and stemmed from corporate-level decisions. It was heartbreaking to watch residents feel ignored while the people caring for them were left without meaningful solutions. The residents deserved better. The employees deserved better. A company that serves seniors should lead with compassion, dignity, and respect—not only toward residents, but toward the people entrusted with their care. I am grateful for the relationships I built with residents and coworkers, but I would not recommend employment here to anyone seeking a supportive workplace culture or leadership team that genuinely values its employees.
