Pros
You have to love teaching to do this job. If you're principal leaves you alone, you can do most anything to nurture the love of learning in your students. Austin ISD is one of the few school districts in Texas that pays into Social Security, a bonus when it comes to retirement.
Cons
If you're principal's philosophy clashes with yours, good luck. Very limited opportunities for advancement, unless you are friends with those in authority to provide opportunities for you. I've see too many people promoted due to friendships rather than those who are more capable.
