My work at AISD has been challenging, rewarding, frustrating, and exhausting. - Teacher Austin ISD Employee Review

Pros

The pros are that you feel you have a job that is contributing the greater good of our society. You are educating the youth. There's also summer vacation and a decent benefits package.

Cons

You can work in this district for 10 years and still barely break $50k. Unless this job is your calling, your true passion in life, it is not worth the money. It can easily consume you and take over your personal life, if you allow it to. The hours, although on paper look fabulous, are difficult. Yes, teachers get 2.5 months in the summer, but they more than make up for it with 60 hour weeks and habitual sacrificed weekends. The district is enormous and can't seem to keep up with its growth.

Pros

Decent pay and good PTO.

Cons

Demanding schedules. Administration doesn't communicate well, and budget cuts make the job harder.
