Pros

I went into my job with absolutely no healthcare experience at all, and I was very thoroughly trained in everything I needed to do to succeed. Personally, I was planning on going to medical school in the future, but I wanted somewhere to try out the medical field and understand if it was the path I truly wanted to take. Austin Retina was a fantastic place to do this. I learned more than I could have ever expected, in a fast-paced and welcoming environment that was perfect for me. I made genuine, strong connections with my the people I worked with, not only my fellow technicians, but also the doctors. I will tell you right now, there is no place where you can talk to 10 doctors all day and learn the ins and outs of what they do and why they do it like at Austin Retina. I cannot even explain how beneficial that was for me in trying to explore my interests and passions. Austin Retina employs people who take pride in the work they do, and it shows. The people around me cared about what they did, and strived to get better at it. One thing I noticed was that our supervisors took everything we said very seriously, any complaints, suggestions, concerns, etc. If there were issues between employees or someone was misbehaving, those concerns were dealt with immediately and respectfully. I am so grateful for the 2 years I got to spend here, and I do believe what I learned here is the reason I am going to medical school today.

Cons

Austin Retina is a fast-paced place to work, as I'm sure other reviews may mention. I will, however, add that I do not believe it is "too" fast-paced. Seeing this comment before starting my job at ARA made me nervous for what I was about to jump into, but upon working there, I realized that ARA works on making processes efficient for both the patient and technician without sacrificing excellent service. I would say compared to a slower job and working with a few patients a day like some medical practices to, sure ARA is more fast-paced, but that was actually something I enjoyed. I got to wow people with my ability to get the information and testing they needed without having them move between 5 different rooms and be sitting in the office for hours. If you prefer a slow-paced environment, ARA would not be my first place to direct you, but otherwise I do not think the pace of work would bother you. I never met a single employee who said that things moved too fast.

Pros

Amazing co-workers and physicians. Beautiful offices, PTO accrual is at a good rate. good growth and skills learned in all departments. Regional aspect makes it better for work-life balance. Remote positions available(after experience).

Cons

Extremely short staffed to where people are burnt out. Not much acknowledgement to burn out. Being told they are making changes to make it better for employees, but making it more difficult. Being told we are heard, which may be true, but are not understood. Plans to rely on AI for working models to cut cost. Increasing physician count and patient count while reducing staff or keeping it the same, spreading current staff thinner. due to burn out, many people are quitting. high turnover rate.
