Pros
•Good benefits if you can stay with the company a few years •Good training •Management does care about •Job safety (never laid anyone off since started in 1916) •Opportunities for advancement if you can stay with company at least a few years.
Cons
-The starting pay is not very high, typically below industry average. However you do get a few small raises the first year or two, and if you can stay with the company 5+ years, you will likely be above industry average, taking into account profit sharing and Christmas bonus. -The company has not stayed in business 104 years to date by inventing anything new and taking big risks. The company is very slow to move into anything, or develop any new products (even compared to other carriers). -Longevity is very significant to this company, maybe a little too much. Might just be my perspective but someone with the company 5 years that is very bad at their job, will get much more rewards, pay, opportunities, bonuses etc... than someone with the company 2 years who is incredible at their job. Totally understand this is a problem with many companies but I just think pay should be based more on merit and less on “annual raise”. -If you want to move up within the company, you’re pretty much not going to go anywhere unless you have at least 2 years experience, and move to Lansing, Michigan (home office). If you want to move into management within a regional branch, that’ll be at least 5 years experience minimum.
