Pros

Can be alright if you’re not in the research and development team

Cons

- Constructive criticism is brushed off as negativity. You can have a face to face meeting with the CEO and still have no resolution to some of the most pressing issues. - If you disagree with leadership consistently, you are removed from power or terminated. - There is no real direction for the product. The original core application that was originally planned is now ignored for shiny things. - Teams are told that they are empowered, and then get assigned large feature sets to finish by a certain date. This defeats the purpose of why we wanted to switch to this methodology. - If you’re expecting a smooth developer career progression, look elsewhere. People who are close to management get hired in at the Senior level with no interview, even becoming promoted to Technical Manager within a few weeks. This is a slap in the face to everyone on our team that has worked years to earn that title. - Management plays favorites. Get on their good side if you know what’s good for you. - Can’t really trust some of your peers. I kid you not when I say, that you have to be careful what you say around your peers, lest it reach leadership’s ears. - There is distrust even between Sales and the CEO. The reports generated by our tool and the numbers reported by Sales are usually different. This has led to a culture of distrust even outside development.

Let me start by thanking you for the feedback. You were very open and transparent in your review and I will do my best to reply with the same mindset. I want you to know that I take your feedback sincerely, we are going through a lot of changes as a product and development organization and moving very quickly to hit our goals. We can always improve, and feedback like this drives me and leadership to do so. I do agree, that we need to work harder on progression plans and we are, as well as potential, additional incentives for our teams. I do not agree with your statement regarding “there is no real direction for the product”, as we have very concrete plans in place for all areas of our product and have clear goals and milestones we are looking to accomplish in the coming months, and years. We have already seen great benefits from the transformation to agile, and it has also identified weaknesses where we can improve to ensure long-term success. If you do not feel this way, I would encourage you to talk to your manager, as they should have a clear understanding of the direction we are taking. My door is always open as well. And lastly, we have a strong culture here, focused on the customer experience, hard work, open communication, transparency and ownership and accountability. We certainly aren’t for everyone, but many people have built successful careers, and truly enjoy working at Autosoft.
