Too big - you won’t matter as a person - Group Manager Avanade Employee Review

Pros

High profile projects and great delivery teams. Decent work hours and decent vacation.

Cons

So much overhead! WAY TOO MANY “leaders” who haven’t actively worked on a project since 1999 who “tell” you how to run projects. I have weekly leadership call to review my project - with over 10 people? Instead of asking questions it’s an opportunity for them to lecture and degrade the delivery teams. Absolutely ridiculous oversight on projects. They hire overqualified people and put them in demeaning positions with tons of leadership overriding every single decision. Azure DevOps use is highly over complicated with many, many people meddling in your project, changing work item types, states, etc without telling anyone. If it takes an extra team to manage the tool (ADO) you’ve failed. I’m forced to carry offshore folks who aren’t qualified and take more time to manage than it’s worth. Leadership? First - TOO MANY! Wipe out most of ‘middle management’ Quite frankly our leaders care more about the company profile and touting the environment than paying attention to the workers and the work. Finally, benefits are via Accenture. They’ve screwed up my paycheck - there’s NO WAY you’re getting in touch with a “person.” After several months of trying to recover lost pay due to a clerical error I was told it could take months to straighten out. Meantime - I had to take a 401k loan to pay my bills. Really? They do not care about your qualifications - they care about bodies on projects.

Pros

The projects are really large so you'll get great experience. The benefits are good. The people are, for the most part, really nice at the lower level.

Cons

Always restructuring. You don't actually work for Avanade you work for Accenture under the name of Avanade. Accenture is always trying to absorb or downsize Avanade and even the execs don't have real power there. Plus all work and decisions are also controlled by Microsoft, so if they're doing extremely well then Avanade does and then Accenture fights for their share of the money in some shady way.
