Pros

The work for military clients felt meaningful. The members of the development team are competent and hard working. The SMEs are competent and responsive. The office is close to the railroad tracks. There are tiger mosquitos in the garden.

Cons

The company misrepresented its size as 50+ plus employees, when it is closer to just 20 employees. The comp plans were very disorganized and upper management was very slow to rectify discrepancies (it took more than 6 months). Upper management says that employees are the company's best asset, but then regards them with extreme mistrust ranging from going through desks after hours to tightly monitoring use of the internet (there is not enough time to do anything on the internet except take a quick look at news during the 30 minute lunch breaks). There's also an employee whose job is to find out who is having any fun at all and report it to upper management so it can be put to a stop. Turnover is extremely high. Morale is very low. Good, competent people are let go either to save expense and maximize "profit" or because they are capable of independent thought and dare to voice opinions. Typically, when there is bad news such as a key employee being let go, the company brings in pizza for the survivors.

Pros

The company is growing a lot. New contracts have necessitated increasing the staff. This has opened opportunities for the existing staff. Avatar likes to promote from within and has done so consistently. Avatar has also paid for the training of employees in fields that support their duties. It is a great work environment.

Cons

There are very tight deadlines that must be met for our military customers which can be strenuous. Also critical KPIs are set which the company expects to be met, or a reasonable reason why not and what will be done to fix it.

Pros

Work From Home Flexible Work Hours (As long as targets are met) Salary was competitive Great Design and Development Team (or whats left)

Cons

The largest issue for Avatar is the lack of ability to gain new contracts and have a pipeline of future contracts. During my time at Avatar, I was laid off twice due to "lack of work."
