Pros

In December at the Sales Leadership Conference for employees the company announced a contest for employees to participate in. The "burn the churn" contest challenged employees to come up with innovative ways to solve problems and create revenue. In a "shark tank" style judging each team was given 5 min to pitch their idea, then the executives had 5 min to ask questions and then they judged on the spot. As being a participant and also being on the first team to pitch I have to say how much fun it was. We put a lot of work into our pitch, and though the pitch and judging was based on "shark tank" style it was ANYTHING but scary standing in-front of the CEO, CPO, and the VP of Supplier Support. All three, including the CEO were extremely complementary and interested in our pitch. They could see our vision, and joined in our excitement and passion for our project. We left the room not only feeling like we won (we hope we did but the contest is not over yet) but were offered the opportunity to join collaboration in a totally different project in Irvine that was already in the works. It was so exciting to hear from each team as they pitched the feedback and encouragement they received from the judging panel. No idea was the same, and no idea was bad. The morale level in the office skyrocketed with each judging, and so far every team thinks they have won. For me personally it was a fun challenge to have a team, create an idea, work hard to have the idea make sense, and then execute the idea. And then right on the spot be invited to Irvine for a week, to be further heard and actively participate on a project with a co-founder, executives, and management. What an amazing experience!! A little contest created an amazing opportunity for me and my team. I am so grateful for the executives for creating the opportunities for employees not only to speak but be heard!!
