Pros
-Friendly coworkers and teammates- everyone knows you and asks how you are in the morning. They ask about your sister's recent surgery, or your Mom's doctor visit. Truly some of the nicest and most caring people I've ever worked with. Anyone is willing to help you out or answer your questions if they are able. -They hire recent graduates -Great for someone who needs hands on lab experience right out of college.
Cons
-No overtime pay due to agricultural industry. OT pay is the same as your normal pay rate. Work 50 hours? Get paid for 50 hours. No time and a half. -Understaffed and overworked. -Huge and sometimes unreasonable daily workload. Often times staying late to get everything done, skipping breaks and lunches as well, just to try and go home at a reasonable hour. I've stayed more than 4 hours past clock out time before. -Upper management not always understanding. (They are always friendly and professional, but sometimes ask for unreasonable turnaround times or other things.) -Almost no holidays off. The lab is open on every holiday processing samples. Even if you are not scheduled for a holiday, things get so busy you are likely to be asked if you can come in. -Weekend work required- The lab is open on weekends too. We are currently working every third weekend, but that can change if someone is sick or unable to come in. -Punished for small mistakes Recently Upper Management has been writing up employees for what I would consider small unintentional mistakes.
