There's no advancement of career, they made a bunch of roles that didn't make sense for those who are close to the 10 year mark but aren't good enough to be principal chemist level but still worth retaining. They had no direction like being a manager with no power. That and if you are good at your job you aren't allowed to move teams even if thats what you want. Also they have a promotion system that's based if your manager likes you enough to get a title, not off of actual talent or hard work. Entry level chemist got their senior title after 3 year but not the guy who has a phD in physical chemist who's designing new technology for over 5 years; its completely off of the whims of your manager liking you.
