Mind the cost of living - Software Engineer Axis Communications Employee Review

Pros

Friendly atmosphere. Interesting technology. Some great engineers work here. Ok work/life balance.

Cons

Low salaries (in general in Sweden but maybe especially at Axis). If you're thinking about moving to Lund from abroad, think again. First check your income *after tax* compared to cost of living and especially house prices. A small house for a family in Lund will set you back at least 7 million SEK, but even getting a loan for that much will require you and your spouse to both have high incomes (by Swedish standards). Forget about supporting a spouse unless you're content being stuck in a small apartment in a bad neighborhood. The housing market is insane, but of course all the Swedish people who bought properties 10+ years ago are content, and for them an Axis salary might be sufficient, especially in a two-income family. Absurd definition of "senior": it mostly means having worked at Axis for a long time. People with many years of experience from other companies are still never hired as "senior". Some good managers but some who are very non-technical and basically fake it, which means they cannot accurately judge the contributions of their reports.
