Pros
Very flexible schedule. If I feel like working overtime early in the week to take time off later in the week, I only have to tell my manager my intended hours. Starting salary is good, but the cost of living in the area offsets that somewhat.
Cons
Low opportunity for advancement. At least in my experience. I was told if I worked there for 15 more years I could advance up a role. Maybe it’s just me but I would go insane working the same job in the same room for 18 total years. On a related note, promotions and raises are 99% based on your time with the company. I know a guy who got two programs to counter offer each other, that’s the only way it’s possible to get a real ‘merit raise’ here. That’s standard for the defense industry, though. There aren’t really any company events. I barely know anyone here except the people in my immediate group. I’d like the opportunity to make more friends at a company, but maybe that’s just me.
