Pros
Since most of the real engineering is farmed out to consultants, not much pressure to understand the science and engineering is required. Just project managment skills. Its a very easy life with little pressure to do actual work.
Cons
The leadership in the 90's knew the system from the meter to the generator. In my opimion, now its a deep dive into DEI-which by all means should happen naturally but never forced. Back in the day w/o an engineering degree you had a ceiling - now you don't need a degree at all to be a manager. We once lined up for engineering opportunities at BGE now they can't attract engineers at any cost. Even dropping the vaccine mandate did'nt help. Breaks my heart to see the company I was going to retire from, leaving years ago to perform real engineering.
