Pros
I have enjoyed a 15 year career at BISSELL that has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. I have been given great opportunities (some that I may not have been entirely ready for) and been recognized numerous times for my hard work and a job well done. I have had the good fortune of having terrific bosses that care about me as both an employee and a person who also has a life outside of work and we have built relationships of deep trust and loyalty. When interviewing outside candidates I often describe BISSELL as a "big small company". What I mean by that is we are big in the sense that our brand is relevant in many countries around the globe and we all get to work on big exciting growth opportunities, but small in the sense that there aren't a lot of politics/procedure that you find in much larger companies that doesn't lend itself to speed. The size of our company also allows us to get to know each other very well and create life long friendships. I can honestly say I love the people I work with and love my job. Some other things that I value at BISSELL; family ownership and a rich history (140 years next week!), work-life balance, commitment to pets and the ability to bring your dog to work, focus on sustainability, Health & Wellness emphasis with gym fee reimbursement, community giving like Junior Achievement, Ronald McDonald house, United Way, Pet Shelters and more. We also have a great onsite coffee bar and cafeteria which is nice in the winter when it's too cold to go outside for lunch. One of the benefits rolled out in the last 3 years that I know everyone here enjoys is summer hours with casual dress. We work a little longer on Monday-Thursday and then get to start our summer weekends at 12:30 on Friday. This lasts from about Memorial Day to Labor Day and during this time jeans are acceptable (note that jeans are acceptable year round on Fridays). Something that stood out to me during my first week here all those years ago in my first entry level role was I passed Mark Bissell in the hallway. I had not yet had the chance to meet him, but he already knew who I was and took the time to say hello and get to know me a little more. I thought to myself "wow" - this man has a lot of responsibility and hundreds of employees on site and yet he cares enough to pay attention to new hires and know them by name. I knew early on that this place would be a great fit for me and a place I would strive to build a successful career.
Cons
Being a global company with offices and business in many other parts of the world (Mexico, Canada, UK, Amsterdam, Middle East, China, Australia) and depending on the role, conference calls during non-traditional hours should be expected. I think we do a decent job rotating the times every other week so that the various regions around the world take turns with calls that work for all the involved parties.
