Pros
There is much talk about transformation of the IT department, as there has been for years, but I'm not sure anyone knows what they are doing. Many of the senior leadership are leaving for new opportunities. They talk like they are going to do something but it is slow to be put into any kind of action. The latest philosophy was to do Plan, Build, Run but that has been outdated from many years because it just doesn't keep up with today's technologies. It appears that they are struggling to hire at the senior levels and so they are holding off hiring at the lower levels.
Cons
BJC has not moved to the new technologies that the cloud offers. Employees that you talk to do not understand the benefits of the cloud. It takes 6 months just to get a VM provisioned. Much of the paperwork is due to ITIL and project managers justifying their jobs. When I comes to actually getting to the details of how to get something done, those people have already left the company. The IT department is left with managers that don't have any real technical knowledge. They just manage people.
