It's very common in IT for a 7-person team to have 2 people covering most of the work for the team. I was one of the people doing most of the work for my team.
Rather than fixing these problems, management laid off the entire department and replaced us with an outsource company from India. I received exemplary reviews for the better part of 2 decades, and was just tossed aside like I was worthless. I was asked to train people to do my job who didn't understand the most basic concepts of the most essential technologies, and thus couldn't begin to replace me.
Experience working with the outsource company shows that the only considerations were money; knowledge and ability to do the job has no place here.
Fortunately, I found out in the process that I was paid so little at BJC that I had no problem finding a much higher paying job almost instantly.
