Pros
I love BMO as a company as it is forward thinking and does what is right for the customer.
Cons
Working at a branch is extremely difficult with the sales goals and always being busy with small trivial busy work. As a banker sometimes I have over 80 /100 calls a week but am not given a chance to make those calls and then threatened to be written up. Upper leadership does not train or observe staff to help coach or hold people accountable. Especially the tellers. They flip everything even ordering checks to the banker so the banker cannot get anything done. We get no credit at all for service so the teller should do it. The branch manager constantly closes her door for “Calls” which are actually optionally to her career or volunteer activities. She listens to the boss and does not realize what is right and just for her staff. She will not call someone or do anything managers are allowed to do without “asking permission”. However no one else is able to help their career. Bankers/AB’s. I personally was honored and elected to be in 4 different programs which I was encouraged and approved to join but have been able to listen to a call or go to an event in over & months. If branch managers want to look good they get to do the fun events in the big row ,get credit and not help branch. Saying they have to go it is a lie and they do not help promote or teach up. Basically if you are not a branch manager you will be stuck on your time forever. I’ve been with the company for four years. I do a good job, meet my goals, pas audits and in some areas the best in the company. Recently I found out my dad was dying in another state. I’ve been asking since September with help for a transfer bc I like bmo and need a job in order to move. Nothing has been done not even an email or call tk Another branch to help me: why would they help a good banker leave? That is horrible in my opinion and if there was anyway I could afford to leave I would. 4 years and they do not care about my dying dad? They don’t have time to call a branch manager but they can attend volunteer activities two hours away? Ridiculous and it makes me upset. It is silly but we run around constantly. Training for tellers is not enforced so for the most part the managers/bankers have to constantly answer questions while the tellers sit and look at their Cell phone. Bankers have a lot more responsibility and make only a few dollars more an hour. At the end I’m going crazy with stress and it’s not worth it.
