Pros
Great compensation and once in a lifetime experience that many people do not get to see. I worked in Tulsa, just about all my fellow conductors and engineers were great to work with. Everyone looked out for each other. It was a very exciting work environment that is very challenging.
Cons
Furlough and low seniority killed to for me. After moving my wife and two kids from Ft Worth to Tulsa, I was furloughed immediately after receiving my conductors license. I am still on recall, but my class and I are completely left for dead. I am still very angry, but understanding of the situation. I just wish things were different because now I have to start all over in a new area where I have no connections. Currently, we are on out last gallon of milk at home and still unable to find work in Tulsa (something other than 9.00-10.00 an hour). Jobs are difficulty to come by because of the economy, even if you are a veteran and have a degree... I do not recommend this job if you have a growing family. Otherwise, have fun and stay safe.
