Pros

The compensation is great for the area and the 401k benefit is pretty good. I cannot speak to the other benefits, however. If you're in the NYC or Pittsburgh areas, you have tons of opportunities. This isn't true for all offices. There are opportunities to learn the financial side of the business through their e-learning platform.

Cons

Outdated hardware and software development methodologies. Siloed teams, too much office politics, not enough leaders who understand developing good software. Not so quiet environment, constant worry from co-workers on being laid off or their job outsourced to their India offices. Support staff is mostly outsourced and not knowledgeable enough to get things done well or within any reasonable timeframe. Tons of red tape and bureaucracy slows progress to a crawl. Strong aversion to risk causes stagnation and squanders innovation.

Pros

There is real opportunity for career and skill growth. The company runs short on head count, so people willing to take on more responsibilities have avenues to progress. However, you will need to force the issue for promotions & large salary increases after you prove your capabilities. Realistically it'll take an external counteroffer to move the needle.

Cons

It's a large bank and you're a number in the system. If your NPV is positive you'll stay, else you'll be laid off. This includes both scenarios you control and those you don't. Ex. You control your performance, in office time and networking You don't control if your location is a strategic growth site, if a major client goes with a competitor, or if you'd be impacted by a general company-wide layoff plan.
