Pros

- City centre location, easy to reach. - Genuinely nice people in my experience. The people were not a problem, its the whole structure, set of rules and system they were operating in.

Cons

- Long hours, with overtime not only expected, it was actually neccessary to do the job. If you didn't have everything done you would be put under pressure and the only way to complete everything was to stay late. - Very stressful due to the above. - Absolutely zero training. Nothing. I've never encountered anything so poor with regards to training. Try to learn as you go along which was just not good enough as there were some complex parts to the job. - Rarely had enough staff. - Pathetic pay. This can't be stressed enough. Pathetic. Not far above minimum wage for a tough and stressful job. - Could not see any chance of progression. - Very high staff turnover. Overall, I would never recommend this to a friend.

Pros

There is real opportunity for career and skill growth. The company runs short on head count, so people willing to take on more responsibilities have avenues to progress. However, you will need to force the issue for promotions & large salary increases after you prove your capabilities. Realistically it'll take an external counteroffer to move the needle.

Cons

It's a large bank and you're a number in the system. If your NPV is positive you'll stay, else you'll be laid off. This includes both scenarios you control and those you don't. Ex. You control your performance, in office time and networking You don't control if your location is a strategic growth site, if a major client goes with a competitor, or if you'd be impacted by a general company-wide layoff plan.
