Pros

Atmosphere is fairly laid back. Allowed to get up and take a walk outside as needed. Start off with 4 weeks vacation for a salaried employee.

Cons

Very poor pay scale and only going down for IT. Just cut everyone's pensions. Raises are on average 1.5% of salary per year. Advancement is non-existent unless you constantly jump departments, which is difficult since so much is outsourced to India. Work-Life balance that the company likes to tote is non-existent, at least in IT. Constantly cutting jobs, no matter how much profit is made. Training budgets have been cut, so can't even get additional outside training. So much of what we do is simply to meet an arbitrary quota number and has no real value, except to let management beat their chest and say they accomplished something great and give them a talking point.

Pros

There is real opportunity for career and skill growth. The company runs short on head count, so people willing to take on more responsibilities have avenues to progress. However, you will need to force the issue for promotions & large salary increases after you prove your capabilities. Realistically it'll take an external counteroffer to move the needle.

Cons

It's a large bank and you're a number in the system. If your NPV is positive you'll stay, else you'll be laid off. This includes both scenarios you control and those you don't. Ex. You control your performance, in office time and networking You don't control if your location is a strategic growth site, if a major client goes with a competitor, or if you'd be impacted by a general company-wide layoff plan.
